I am a avid fisherman, and I catch and keep serval sharks each year. I teach and show the people on my boat about sharks as so they won't fear them as much and the differance between the spieces. I have tried serval times with little success on preserving the jaws and teeth, granted most of the sharks I keep are between 3 and 5 feet for safety reasons, both for myself and my passangers. I do not kill, or injure any of the sharks that I don't keep, the ones I do keep are not wasted. I was hoping to find out how to preserve there teeth/jaws as not to waste that part also

once the jaws are cut out you need to take a razor blade and trim ALL the meat from the cartlidge. on the back side of the jaws are a cartlidge membrane that covers the seven rows of backup teech. you can feel this with your finger. cut along ridge with blade and slowly remove membrane from backside revieling the additional rows of teeth. once youve done this soak them in 50/50 water and clorox for 1/2 hour. the jaws cartlidge will be soft and plyable. tie a string to the center top joint in the middle of the jaw. and hang. use a wooden dowl cut to size and place in the back of the jaw setting the dowl at the 2 outer joints. this keeps the jaws from folding together. let dry several days and your all set.

Preserving Shark Jaws

leaving them in the live shark is the best way to go...
The trouble you're having is probably because the ones you're keeping are still juvenile. I don't know about your local fishing rules, but there's a good chance this is illegal. Sharks are a protected species. Also, the jaw at this age hasn't had anywhere near as long to develop and calcify as a mature animal.
But if you simply must keep a trophy --- If the jaw is still moist, use a dowel rod to open the jaw to the point at which you want it to remain. Then with a blunt edged knife or other dull scraping device, remove the remaining flesh. You don't want to leave scratches on the bone.
Leave the jaw in the sun to dry completely. Excess flesh will simply dry off and you can rub it off the bone with your fingers. If you want it whiter - use hydrogen peroxide or Clorox and soak for two to three hours. If the teeth are loose, remove them and place a strong (clear drying) glue in the bottom of each socket. Then replace the teeth and they will look natural.
I spray my skeletons with bug spray when they're dry, (or add Borax to the final rinse after you bleach) - the last thing you want is to find roach bitemarks.
There are clear varnishes you can buy that will give it a shiny finish if you're that way inclined, they will also help the bone last longer without becoming too brittle.
Remember, the jaw isn't cartilage like the rest of the shark, which is why it's so hardy.

No preservatives necessary. Boil them only, get off the fleshy meat and sun bake it. Done it several times. Yes, I am a woman.
