The Pope is certainly not a God. The Papacy has had a very colorful past. Murder, rape, and just about any other atrocity you can think of. I'm not trying to put Catholics down but some of the things done by the Pope throughout history is remarkable.

Not at all. It is more like voting for the president of a college from among the faculty, or a prime minister from among the Cabinet.
The pope is chosen from among the standing cardinals. There are age restrictions (I think he can't be over 80 or under 50, but IDK for sure). When several candidates are proposed and agreed upon, the doors are closed and the voting begins.
The pope is actually just the Bishop of Rome. Gregory (the Great) called himself "the servant of the servants of Christ". He is not God.

Actually, you can pick your own god--at least here in the US you can. Unfortunately, we can't do anything about he Pope and I don't think the average person gets to vote for him at all, you need a red robe and hat to do that and then it may only be once in your life you get to choose.
If you are talking about the Pope's comments of late, he WAS quoting an historical figure (a Holy Roman Emperor in fact) and he raises a good point since Muhammad's war verses do exist and do seem to say spread the muslim religion by use of the sword...All muslim double-talking aside, at least christianity doesn't say to do this. Even though it did in fact use violence to spread itself and to enforce its practice throughout history.

we do pick our own god and voting for a pope (even if we got to vote) is not like voting for a god.

No. The pope is a man who is supposed to be the head of a religious organization that does not even follow the word of God.
Why would I pick a man to be my god, when I have Jesus Christ who is God.
One God, and His name is Jesus.

you vote for popes? dude i did not know that! but if i got to pick my own god, which i would love, i would pick Billie Joe Armstrong to be my god.. altho, i suppose you can pick your own god... its a free country after all! :-D

No, it is not. The Pope is merely God's voice on earth, not that I believe that.
