By "a basis", I mean a logical foundation that a typical person could understand. For now, I wish to set aside wether or not such a foundation would be beneficial to the individual and the society.
By "athiesm", I mean a belief that the world we observe around us is the entirety of existance, and that all things can be explained with sufficient observation and intellect. Specifically, this entails the belief that theere is no exterior force driving any part of the world we commonly observe.
So, if you have any interesting, original, and most importantly, rational ideas, to resolve this dilema, please share them.

The "dilemma" is the question itself; is there a logical framework to support the belief of atheism, or is it groundless?

Yes.
In a nutshell
Basically they look at the universe and see that there is no need for a god to exist and that all that there is can be explained by natural causes.

You seem intelligent enough. Atheism IS logical. Belief in scripture flies in the face of logic. Once the initial conditions were set, physicists can show you how quarks became protons and neutrons, how light was finally free to travel and not be absorbed by the high energy quark soup of the infant universe, how those processes led to stars, galaxies, planets, and biodiversity. There's lots of information, but you have to seek it out. Seek and ye shall find. Bottom line -- if God exists, he has had nothing to do for the past 14.5 billion years or so. Besides, his hands are tied, given the "free will" concept.

There is nothing that can't at this time or at a later date be explained in a rational and logical way. There is no need to explain anything with fairy tales. If there is no apparent explanation one must keep looking until one appears and not chaulk it up to a mysterious and unexplainable force which exists beyond our scope of understanding. We have such a limited understanding of the world around us as it is there is no need to confuse oursleves with the fancifal or "spiritual."
There is no evidence to support the existance of a higher power. Religions were founded at the beginning of time and evolved with societies and cultures. The fact that religions evolve is evidence in and of itself that they have no basis in truth. Take modern wiccanism for example, all fanatasy whose rituals were invented by some Brit in the 1950's. Christianity's Bible has been perverted and edited so many times to the benefit of political and church leaders of their time that nobody should take it as "gospel." A simpe spelling or syntax error changes the whole meaning, nevermind that it was intentionally edited by the church at each and every council of bishops through the ages. And Islam is so perverted by hateful Imams and misinterpreted that murder and violence are justified by interpretations of its Koran.
There is no God, no spirits, nothing but this rock and the biological entities that scurry about on its surface.

Yeah. People make up gods all the time. That's enough. Beyond that, science explains what happens in the universe pretty well, and to a better degree all the time. God hasn't popped up in the math yet. An atheist should admit that humans cannot ever have absolute knowledge, or at least absolute trust in their ideas, because we can all be fooled. I have been surprised in dreams, so I can even fool myself. But science is the logical choice to base your cosmology on.

Just being honest with you now...as smart as you seem, your question doesn't do it for me..especially in the explanation of your question. Sufficient observation and intellect, what is that? Oh I see grass, i feel rain drops, yeah I'm an atheist. haha I can't for the life of me see a logical basis for not believing in a Creative being. Like I've said before, I feel that there was a genius behind the universe...not just multiple coincidences. I'm not after converting you to think my way, just letting you know I can't think your way.

An atheist simply does not believe in a god(s). That's it, that's all. It's not even about believing that there is no god. If you can imagine that the basic state is living life, nobody believing in any god(s) or religions. Then imagine some believing in a god or gods or adhering to some other religious or spiritual belief system. The ones left over are the atheists

Yes there is logical explaination the question becomes who is defining logic, yours or theirs? If one chooses to believe fine it makes sence to them. If one chooses not to believe then fine it makes sence to them.
Athiest don't believe that there is a god. Logic back up that up. Athiests don't believe and are offended by the action of many Christians who are anything but Christ like. See what is unbleievable to Athiest are Christians who claim Christ and live like hell. Why believe when those who claim it don't even believe themselves.
I claim Faith in Jesus and in so doing I am suppose to model my life after His model. My actions are what is real or not and my actions will either affirm my faith or condemn it. Way too often Christians condemn our faith by our actions and our answers here. We condemn the Cross because we fail to live our beliefs.
Think about that when we ask why other refuse to believe.

There is much scientific proof such as ancient texts and carbon dating that provide the logic for this. Read Gilgamesh to start, then the Code of Hammurabi.

I guess they only believe in what can be observed with the eyes... I don't get it because there are other things that are invisible but people believe in their existance commonly.
1Cr 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Everything has a logicical basis. Sometimes you just need to look for it. Obviously athiests see logic in their beliefs. I don't know exactly what you are looking for in the answers. Are you looking for proof of why they believe what they do, or just why they believe it?
