To make this right, nothing but KRAUT and SAUSAGE go in the crock. No sugar, no water, no potatoes, caraway seeds or anything.
Yummy!
What a shame you can't use my family's home-made kraut---you'd never again eat that garbage in the can or jar or bag!!!

I agree with the potatoes but, usually one will do. It's only there to take some of the tartness out of the 'kraut. Any more and you end up with a watery mess.

Cut onions into slices, and line the bottom of yoru greased crock. (Don't pull apart into "rings" but leave in slices.) Lay sausages on top of onions. Then cover w/ drained sauerkraut (more juice will be made). Cover w/ lid and cook on low about 8 hours.

take cabbage and onion. Sautee in small amount of butter. When slightly cooked, remove from heat. In crockpot put the cabbage mixture and add saurkraut with juice and polish sausage. Let cook on low for over 6 hours.......very good.
You can substitute brauts for the sausage.

Yummy!!! I personally prefer a bratwurst if it is going in the crock, rather than polish because the polish gets to soft. Definately acquired taste, but man, is it good!!!

Add potatoes to it and a little bit of hot pepper seasoning. It gives it a little more kick.
