First had information. But he didn't write it down himself, it was handed down orally until Greek Scholars wrote it down.

While Luke was not a first person eyewitness, he is considered a historian. He had access to first person eyewitnesses and writings of Mark during the time it was written, and also he is believed to be the author of Acts. The book of Luke was written in AD 62. He was a physician and a writer of facts of the period in question.

Actually, Luke himself was not an eyewitness of the events in his Gospel. All of that information he collected from eyewitnesses; most of it probably came from the apostles and other disciples.

Much of what happened in Acts, though, Luke did witness himself (especially the parts having to do with Paul).

Luke got his information from God. Luke was also a medical doctor.

He was an eyewitness. That is what he told Theophilus.

Luk 1:1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
Luk 1:2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

One God, and His name is Jesus.

He was an eyewitness to much of it. It's also likely he learned about how Gabriel visited Mary and she conceived Jesus from Mary or Jesus themselves, since Luke certainly wasn't around to be an eyewitness to that.

He is the eyewitness for the miracles of Jesus. He followed Jesus, he dined with Him, he was taught by Him...He knew Jesus personally.
