It's a terrible scenario, I know, but it goes to the issue of the right to die, and should we be allowed to choose?

Yes and Yes
It's ridiculous that we "put animals to sleep" when they're old and/or very sick, or horses with broken legs, but we do not allow thinking, human beings who are supposed to have free will, to end their suffering.
I had a lawyer prepare a Health Directive specifying what is to be done for me medically when I'm terminal. I would also like to have a doctor provide me with the pills I could use to end my own life when I no longer want to deal with the pain.
Quality of life is more important to me than the length.

My profession is assisting quadriplegic people, and my best friend is paralyzed from the mid chest down. I love him and he has been a terrific friend and ally and my life would suck really badly if I didn't know him. His life isn't what it used to be, but it doesn't suck. He does what he wants, he laughs and loves and enjoys his life and family. He goes to school and has a hot girlfriend and a really twisted and funny sense of humor.

The right to die is a deep issue and in some cases I believe that a dignified death is preferable to suffering, but quadriplegia doesn't qualify. Nothing prevents my friend or my other clients from doing what they want and enjoy their lives, working, playing, the whole life thing.

I think that if I lived through a terrible accident, I'd believe that God wanted me to live for a reason. I know a guy my age (47) that was in an accident in his early 20's that left him like that. He became an advocate for the disabled, and married recently. All is not lost!! Gotta believe!!
God bless!!

Its all come back to the faith.
if you are a believer you must know that you will be rewarded in a better way than healthy people.
if you are not a believer , then nothing really can help.
I prefer to be a believer.
this accident may open a whole new door for you & totally different look at life.
it could be the best thing happened to you (honestly) but you need to be patient my friend.
let me know if I can help you any?

You bet. I'd want Dr. Kevorkian on speed dial.

It's horrible when either the mind or the body goes and leaves the other okay.

Yes. That is why I wrote a health proxy will so that my designee can tell the doctors that is my choice.
