I have driven one for a while now and love it. No problems whatsoever. The CVT transmission is wonderful, so smooth. Some people may say it is a revised Neon, but it is not. It is a totally new and different car. The engine is what is called a world engine that is built by a conglomerate headed by Hyundai. Many companies are using these engines now. The Caliber has a great feature in the upper part of the glove box that keeps several bottles of water cool. The best thing to do, take one for a test ride.

The first year production cars are always the ones with the most problems. They never work out all the little problems and quirks completely. So expect a first year production car to have substantially more problems than later years. The Caliber is based on the Neon platform. Which means it is a neon with different sheet metal and panels. Neons have been known in the past as disposable cars with lots of problems.
Although this is an isolated case but my friend bought a caliber and had the clutch fail in it after only 100miles! he has to pay for it because warranty does not cover clutch.
There are other competitive cars in this segment that you need to consider before buying.
Toyota Matrix, Pontiac Vibe, Mazda 3 hatchback, Nissan Versa, Honda Fit, ... many other within that price range that offer better reliability, options, performance.

I do not own one, but I have driven one.
They are neat little car with lots of nice options for the price,
I especially like the stereo system and the refrigerated glove box.
The variable speed transmission takes a little getting used to, but it helps out with gas mileage.

Looks interesting but I hope they worked out all the Neon's kinks. I would wait another 6 months before buying one.
Warranty should have covered the clutch mentioned in the other poster's answer.
