That is a tough one. These kind of people are very controlling and selfish people. Most of the time they would never pick on a man, they are too big a coward. It takes a coward, someone in a great deal of pain and no self worth to do what he does.
It is not up to you to teach or show him how to let go. The important thing is you had the couragel, yes, the courage to get out. So many people think it is as simply as walking out the door. Just fear itself can prevent you from making the right decission. Be very proud of yourself and do not worry about him. Feel sorry for his next victim. He won't stop you know, they never do.

Disappear out of his range, completely! if you can't, you better take some self defense classes and carry pepper spray. You are now in more danger than before. He's a coward, that's why he abused you, and keeps doing so by harassing you, and cowards like that are unpredictable. The best thing for you is for him not to have any way to contact you, (don't you call him either!)don't be afraid to let the authorities deal with him, that will scare him cacaless. Be proud of yourself for making that step forward, it's hard for many to understand just how big of an accomplishment that is alone, so don't ever put up with any more caca again, and by leaving him others will know....you're raising the bar high by setting a good example for others to follow, and cowards like him will see that we're not taking it anymore. Keep strong, life is going to get so sweet after you get over him, you'll see.

call 911. move out with police protection. Get a restraining order against him. Make sure he doesn't know where to find you. Keep copies of emails and record threatening phone calls. Therapy never works. They say they are sorry and will change. They do for about 2-3 weeks then it all starts over again. It's not worth taking the chance of him loosing it and seriously hurting you. I read a peom about a abused lady getting flowers from her abusive husband, At her funeral..

Restraining order would be my first thought. Been there, done that. You need to get yourself a spine, hun. Any man that beats on a woman is no man at all. Stand tall & make things happen. You're the only one that can do it.

Run far and fast. Leave a full explanation, if you must but men who are abusive want to control. Your needs are irrelevent to him and you are still acting concerned about how he will take the news. He won`t take it well....get very far away because these people are unreasonable.
