No irony in his voice. No display of false pity. Decidedly, in this year 1938 a truce was in effect in men's affairs. Failure in life, which for so long had seemed to me like a sort of dishonor, no longer had the same importnace. becaue of the political events that were having their impact upon all of us, we no longer felt ashamed at not having got anywhere. Never a at this moment had I felt this comforthing sensation that comes from the equality of all in the face of danger.

All I want to know is to understand third and last sentence.
I have no idea how I could interpret them. Please help me.

A couple of things:

Please clean up the spelling and grammar; that would help our understanding.

Also, what language are you better at? A multilingual person (where one of the languages is yours) might best help.

Hello again... I seriously think you should go to dictionary.com or m-w.com to get definitions, but I'll still help you out. The third sentence means that this guy (I'm guessing) used to think that failure was a really bad thing and a disgrace, but after whatever happened to him, he doesn't think failure is very important anymore. It just doesn't feel as bad and disgraceful (dishonorable) as he used to think now that he's experienced it and has time to cope with it.

The last sentence means... well, let's break it down. The very last part "all in the face of danger" refers to everybody, all creatures, including humans and animals. When they feel as if they're in danger or trouble, that puts them on an "equal" surface because they all feel scared and hopeless. Therefore, the guy finds comfort in knowing that he is just like everybody else, and his failure just seems like a small thing.

Not having read this book. But, look what was happening in 1938, WWII was starting. That fact was overriding the person's feeling of failure. In war faced with danger, everyone rich or poor, young or old are equal. The person takes comfort in that fact. To know they were all in that situation together kinda was uplifting.
