Whatever they like best...

I have two domestic shorthairs. The older one eats nothing but dry food. Even the treats we get for her MUST be dry, because she won't eat anything else.

The younger cat, however, demands one can of wet food every day, plus dry food for nibbles at other times. Woe betide the person who forgets!

Neither one of them will touch people food.

OK guys will you please go to: www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article, "Does Dry Food Clean the Teeth?". You don't have to agree and at least listen to someone who might know something you don't. Most vets now have come to the conclusion that dry food does not help the teeth (and they are usually five to ten years behind concerning what cats should eat anyway.)

I am not a fan of dry food and I do feed some. I use a raw meat diet that I make with a supplement powder for my cats and they have canned food too. In another five to ten years vets will be saying that dry food is too dehydrating for cats (who don't drink water as dogs do) and is inimicable to the health of their kidneys. Cats are going into "kidney failure" younger and younger.

I have a 22 yr old cat whose kidneys have been bad for four years now. She is a phenomenon on the local veterinary scene. She has been a raw meat eater for the seven years I have had her after rescuing her at age fifteen. My cats don't vomit (except occassionally, always dry food never after any canned or raw diet.) They never have diarrhea. Their stools are small, not smelly either.

Cats are carnivores and will never be healthy and well nourished by all the crappy commercial dry food they are fed their entire lives.

I have 3 indoor cats ranging in age from 2 years to 8 years old. I feed them wet food in the morning. I, also, leave a bowl of dry food out for them around the clock. I make sure to change their water daily.

We keep dry food out all day. In the evening we mix the wet food with their dry food(about 1/2 a can between 6 cats) and they love it.

I have a cat who is the same way. I would give her can food and she would sniff it turn up her nose and walk away. When she had her kittens and I would mix dry and wet together (the loaf kind) with a little warm water to help the kittens get used to food she ate it right up. Her last litter of kittens was almost two years ago and I still feed the wet/dry combo. So maybe give it a try. My other cats will only eat the loaf kind of canned food and if I give them the sliced, diced or whatever they only lick off the gravy stuff and won't eat the rest. They seemed to be picky about texture. Good Luck!!

I have found that both work the best for my cat. Wet food in the morning makes my cat eager to eat and provides a good amount of moisture. Then I leave dry food out all day to keep her teeth from getting tartar.

The dry food is better for their teeth but there is no harm in giving them canned food if you like. I would suggest getting the small cans of canned food and let them have a little but keep dry food available at all times.

Tape worms, the most common type of worms in dogs and cats, are caused by the animal swallowing a flea, not by what they eat. Well, except technically they did eat the flea...

I feed both wet and dry. I keep dry food available 24/7 and only feed them one can of wet food a day. They always look forward to the wet food.
Note: I have never heard of wet food causing worms. That is news to me. When I first got my cats, they had worms. I got it cleared up right away and have never had problems with it since then (and they have been eating wet food every day).

High quality wet food is good because it contains more water. Cats really aren't meant to drink alot of water, they're desert animals. If your kitties are drinking alot, they're not getting enough from their food.

High quality dry food is also good and helps prevent plaque built up. I feed both - dry kibble in the morning and wet in the evening. My cats are all indoor only and have lost weight since I've stopped "free feeding" (they were getting fat, 15 lbs+!).

I have two cats. One is 15 years old and the other is 14 years old. I always leave dry food and water out for them because cats are nibblers unlike dogs who will wolf all their food in one sitting. I also give them a pouch of wet food every morning. Once a week they get a pouch of Temptations cat treats. Then every month or two I spread out a thick line of Cosmic catnip on the floor for them to roll in and eat.
