ok so the amount of calories in an apple (which depends on the size of the apple) is less than the amount of calories it takes to burn the calories themselves. Apples are considered "negative calorie food" (go ahead google it, its real I swear!). It takes more energy (calories) to break down the apple itself then there is in the apple itself. So you actually BURN a few calories by eating an apple. Don't take this as a weight loss method, but it helps u with weight loss. this is awesome .. I know!

The number of calories in apple are low because like many other low calorie fruits they have a high water content. The edible part of an apple contains up to 90% water.
Apples are a good source of vitamin C and are rich in soluble fiber which helps lower cholesterol.

Not only does it depend on the size of the apple, but it also depends on what TYPE of apple you eat. For example, a Red Delicious has 127 calories while a Golden Delicious Apple (Is that an apple? never heard of that) has 101 calories.

Whatever calories it has is negated by the high fiber content... if you ate 3000 calories/day in apples you still wouldn't gain wait. The other people's answers are right.
