One thing you do not want to do is let the cat near any catnip. Will probably just make the situation worse.

stear clear of catnip... hide it.
if you give it scraps try not to feed the cat anything sweet...
give her lots of toys and a big space to run around in. my siamese likes plastic bags...and shiney things.
