In conversation with this friend of mine, we did a lot of talking about relationships, and then suddenly she asked me if I saw her as a sister. I said "I guess" because my sister calls you that! Everytime I see her since then we have seemed to get closer and closer. I don't understand the new direction of our friendship, and I need help understanding it.

You need to talk to this friend and find out from her. No one here can tell you what she wants (possibly she herself might not be sure either) or even if this is a "new" direction or just that you have gone deeper in your friendship but only in the same direction.
One thing is for sure, if this *is* headed into a romantic relationship, then you should definitely open the lines of good communication ASAP. Nothing is more important to a successful relationship than good communication.

When women get married they always want to change their husbands, but they nver do. When men get married they want their wives to always stay the same but they always change.
