Why do you want "God" to be a vindictive, sadistic monster?

Asking an atheist if he is worried about eternal damnation is like asking him if he is worried about the monster hiding under his bed. Do you not get that?

Let me ask you a question. The God that Protestants believe in only allows believers into Heaven. That means that he will send good men to Hell. How can you worship, love or admire a god that uses the same criteria for sending people to Hell that Hitler used for sending people to Auchwitz? Don't you think that a god who punishes good men is evil? I do.

I single out Protestants, because Catholic beliefs are a bit different. What are you going to do if thy are right -- because that means that you will suffer eternal damnation in hell. To quote you -- Does that sound good to you or something?

How do you ignore something that doesn't exist. The only hell I know is listening to and seeing all the wonderful things going on in the world today mainly involving right wing christians and islamic extremists. Add a little bit of Isreal to the mix and we can all sleep soundly at night. Why don't you stop belonging to your particular little group and belong to one single group - the human race.
Peace.

OK, look. I'm a Christian: I believe in God the Almighty. But look at your question. Look at how you said it. I'm not going to preach to you about saying stuff like that, but I mean come on. Would that sound good to anybody? No, of course not. God gave everyone the right to believe what they want to, and people do. Please don't think I'm judging you or anything, but what you said almost sounds hateful. If you are a Christian, please show it by loving others and spreading the word of God.

Congrats, Randy!! Every question I go to I see your answer, and I'm glad to see that you're doing what you are doing. I even checked out the website. Keep it up!!

Jack, I was raised in a christian home where I was taught at a young age all about the bible and that Jesus died for my sins ect. I went to Christian school I accepted Jesus into my heart I did everything by the book. Fast forward into my late twenty's I started to think for myself and tried to find what I believe without everybody telling me what I should believe. What did I find? That it just don't make sense. There are a ton of religions all believing that there way is the right way. So who's right? None of them Most of Christianity is taken from ancient religions. Most religions in the world borrow from one another. Going to Hell is a scare tactic. It's like your parents saying you'll grow hair on your palms if you masturbate.

Yep, sounds darn good. Wanna know why? 'Cause for once I won't have intolerant, ignorant people like you trying to shove things down my throat. Will you people ever get it through your heads that hell does not bother us because we don't believe it exists? If we believed in hell, we'd be religious now wouldn't we? You folks need to find something else to threaten us with 'cause this one doesn't do it.

Oh and for the person who said we (atheists) hate god, I have a question: how can we hate something that we don't believe exists?

"Come the rapture, can I have your car?"

If god is real and god really does punish non-Christians, who he created with the foreknowledge that they would sin and go to hell, then yes, "eternal damnation in hell" sounds better than hanging out with your god for eternity.

The concept of hell is based on the garbage pit in Gehenna outside of jerusalem. I've been to the dump....it's not as bad as an eternity of choir practice. I would know i used to be in choir. Plus+ Athiests don't believe in a heaven or hell dumb ***!

Damnation in hell does not concern me. Hell is a man-made concept to intimidate the gullible.

So let me get this straight, I should suffer eternal fire because I'm an intelligent person who can think for himself, is honest, does not need to be "saved", contributes to society, helps others, knows right from wrong on my on accord, accepts people for who they are, but thinks god and religion is irrational because of my beliefs and powers of deduction? What the hell...?

You sound like you are 14 years old. I'm not an atheist, I'm agnostic. Do you really believe everything that your parents, the bible, and any religious figure tell you? What makes you think that they've got it all figured out? No one knows everything about God, afterlife, etc., and to think it is as simplistic as - believe in God and Jesus Christ and you'll go to heaven - is ludicrous.
