It's a simple question. What is your personal definition of neglect?

Make that child neglect.

I don't get it--I got a thumbs down for asking a question. How is my question wrong or bad?

I know what child neglect is...that wasn't the question. I didn't say "What is neglect?" I asked "What do YOU consider neglect?" Meaning: What do you personally feel is neglectful? I'll answer my own question. I think neglect is when parents don't pay attention to a child, when parents don't provide a safe and healthy environment for a child to live in. I think neglect is even when parents argue in front of children...as they aren't teaching the child properly. There you go that's what I was looking for. Obviously few people on here know how to comprehend.

There are different kinds/levels of child neglect:

Physical - not properly taking care of a child's physical needs - not proper nourishment, insufficient medical care, not protecting a child from a known abuser (of any type, including family member), not changing diapers when needed, not keeping them clean (bathing and such), the list goes on, but you get the idea.

Improper supervision - leaving them alone/unattended, allowing them to run around the neighborhood unsupervised, allowing them to play in the street, allowing strangers to keep watch over them, leaving them in the grocery cart seat while you wander off, letting them walk around by themselves (out of arm's reach) in stores and other places where they could be grabbed easily (and it does happen), leaving them in the car/van while you run into the store "just for a minute" (never, ever leave your child alone in a vehicles), etc.

Emotional neglect - not giving them love/hugs/kisses, etc. Children NEED those to develop emotionally.

Mental neglect - not helping them develop mentally - not reading to them, not talking to them, not helping them learn to speak proper words in a correct manner.

Disciplinary neglect - allowing them to do as they please. That is not to say children should be excessively punished, but they do need CONSISTANT boundaries.

There are more, but I think you get the idea. Yes, you can love a child very much, but still be neglectful. They are totally dependent on you to be their caretaker and it is a huge responsibility 24/7.

Not providing a clean, warm, safe place where a child can feel loved.... not feeding your child, or providing them with seasonabley appropriate clothing... Not caring if they go to school or do their homework, or know right from wrong... that's neglect in a big way.....There was a boy who lived on our block that would run around all summer with no shoes.. not even flip flops. He was always filthy, and didn't have a coat for when it got colder... His mother actually got pissy with me for offering him a pair of sandals that my son quickly grew out of. That's just down right neglect. She had enough money for her cigarettes and lottery tickets, but couldn't buy him a $5 pair of sandals! Your kids should always come first. They can't go get a job and they're looking to you for guidance through life.

Neglect is something you should've taken care of but you haven't.. Example I neglected to wash my dishes today but I know I should've
watched them. If you don't know what neglect is than you haven't paid attention when you went to school. Some people will give you thumbs down for being stupid not knowing what they think everyone knows. Your question is bad or wrong... just something no one expect to see!

when the company you work for, do not follow SOP (standard operated procedure) and someone gets hurt or someone is not treated fairly. Then that is neglectful behavior on the company.
