Lol, I would never do it, i would just buy a ticket and fly. But here in Canada I believe someone put themselves in a wooden crate with food, air, a bathroom system and stuff, and had someone ship him somewhere, and he actually made it. He recorded the whole thing for a college project.

Yes it is. The last person who did it was arrested, since it's illegal to transport humans over the state lines [or something like that], but he also took a bigger risk:
Plane luggage holds aren't always pressurized. Which means if it wasn't, and you were in a box down there, you would arrive to your desination dead. There's really no air at 35,000+ feet, so your chances of survival are like -27%.
And since they scan a lot of luggage now, you might not even make it on the plane. If you do try, however, make sure to give a shout-out to all of us here at Yahoo! Answers when you appear on the news. We'll be watching!

It's illegal and unsafe. Boxes aren't always kept at an even temperature or can be jossled around quite a bit. What about food and bathroom breaks? It's just a very poor idea.

No it is certainly not illegal. It is only dangerous if you are not put in the forward hold section of the aircraft (where there is heating). In fact, it is widely rumoured that many budget carriers are going to be offering this as "cargo class" for a heavily reduced fare but only between shorter distances.

Yes, but even if you could, with the way that the parcel companies handle goods you will either get lost or damaged , and most likely wouldn't survive to tell the tale and be able to spend the money you have been saved.

It is dangerous, even for pets! Cannot even estimate how many times pets have been lost, only to be found.... Sad, but true. I'd rather pay the fare.
