Lately I have been getting tightness in my chest and feel like I could pass out after only having a couple of alcoholic drinks. I don't feel drunk or anything like that. It's usually when I am laying in bed afterwards and not on the night out. Other times I will be completely fine. I sometimes get random panic attacks too (usually when travelling). It's not very often but enough to give me concern. I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (yeah, I've heard all the jokes), could this be connected? Any ideas? I'm 23 and relatively fit although I smoke around 4 cigarettes a day. Thanks for your help.

First of all, your young and healthy why would you want to continue to smoke....its a one way ticket to BAD HEALTH. Please do yourself a favor and quit. Now your chest pain could be due to various things, most commonly people who lay down and experience a tightness in the chest could be experiencing reflux of acid from the stomach, I doubt its your heart but you should see your doctor.

Alcohol is a vasodilator, you could be extrasensitive and it lowers your blood pressure making you feel lightheaded, also you could have and assoicated anemia....see your doctor and get checked.

I doubt your chest pain has any connection to your IBS

Quit smoking

Quit drinking

Quit rock 'n' roll

Your differential diagnosis includes:

ischaemic heart disease (you are a little on the young side, but hey if you treat your arteries rough they'll get back atchya!)

anxiety

paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (esp caused by alcohol - "holiday heart" often diagnosed after patients have been on a binge and have palpitations)

You should see your doctor and perhaps get an ECG (or an EKG if you are a yank)

Perhaps you should get blazing drunk and THEN go see your doctor to make it easier for them to diagnose you! :)

Looks like a case of COPD. Consult a dr.
