I don't like going to the movies and even though I like to go out to eat, it gets expensive. So about one or two weekends a month, on Saturday I go to the grocery store and buy stuff to make a meal like I could get in a resturant, like a steak dinner, shrimp dinner, or appetizers like buffalo wings, cheese sticks, and dips. Then I go to the movie store and rent 3-4 movies and then we stay at home and eat a resturant type meal and watch movies in our PJ's.

When our boys were little (they are grown now) we liked to get a baby sitter and then go to a bookstore and browse the new books, OR go for a walk. So, we did have the expense of the baby sitter, but, didn't spend any other money and had a cheap date.

My weekend includes Friday night tae kwon do for my oldest. Then we usually have movie night. The kids pick the movie and I make popcorn. The kids don't have a bedtime on the weekend. Saturday morning is the kids' bowling league. And I coach cheerleading so we're busy until noon. Then we have lunch and usually plan an outing or we just stay in and all find something to do. I read, watch tv or get on the net. Sunday is our day to sleep in, be lazy and watch NASCAR. I cook from scratch on a daily basis but Sunday is the day I make a larger meal and usually make homemade bread and dessert as well. We eat and most times play a board game or two. Weekends are the best!

That's what I do. Or sometimes when I know my son is going to be out with friends (teenager) I will keep the little one up from nap and put her to bed at 8:30 instead of 9:00 and then I'll make a fancy restraunt like meal with a glass of wine and we will eat by candlelight.
It is too expensive to go out anywhere very often.

Wow! that sounds like fun! Actually on Saturdays occasionally we go the museum or we have a game night. We also have a drive-in theater here and it's only $5.00 each for 2 movies, it's great because they have a place for the kids to play if they get bored with the movie but also because you can make your own popcorn and whatever else you like, we make pizza rolls, and take them out there too.

I'm not a parent yet, but will be soon. If I were you I would go out somewhere with the child/children and have a great family day out. Go somewhere like parks or lakes and let your child feed the ducks. Your child will have great fun and it doesn't cost anything. Then later if it's not too expensive take your child to an ice skating ring and teach/learn to skate. Remember the best things in life are free.

This answer varies with the person. Me? My weekends include cleaning the house, laundry, pee-wee football games, maybe a sleep-over at my house, cooking for the family, church, a movie, a glass of wine in the midst and maybe even a litte sex - if I get to it. Yeah, sounds hectic right? Not to me. I love it. I work 40+ hours a week PLUS go to school at night so time with my family in ANY context is relaxing and fun for me. :) Do what makes YOU happy. Good Luck.

That sounds perfect. Remember, when relaxing, it is about what makes you feel relaxed, not what everyone else thinks you need to do in order to feel relaxed.
Enjoy your home cooked meal and in-house movie night!!
