he says
If your hand or foot causes you to sin , cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

no need to be blasphemous, Tony.
it has been said that only an ignorant man resorts to name calling.
it IS much easier than actually PROVING your point - granted - but it does make for a childish setup.
anyhow..... have you ever heard something called a ALLEGORY? no? i thought so. let me help you by first explaining the meaning of this passage, then defining the word ALLEGORY for you...
***SOOOOO.............. DON'T CUT ANYTHING OFF.
JESUS WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN THE SIGNIFICANCE OF LIVING A RIGHTEOUS LIFE AND THAT THERE IS NO SIN IN THE WORLD WORTH GOING TO HELL FOR BECAUSE IT IS A HORRIBLE PLACE. HE WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN THAT NOTHING IS AS IMPORTANT AS GOING TO HEAVEN AND YOU SHOULD DO WHATEVER IT TAKES FOR YOU TO DISCIPLINE YOURSELF INTO LIVING A RIGHTEOUS LIFE IN ORDER TO GET THERE BECAUSE HELL IS TERRIBLE AND HE LOVES YOU AND DOESN'T WANT YOU TO GO THERE.
****ALLEGORY : in literature, symbolic story that serves as a disguised representation for meanings other than those indicated on the surface. The characters in an allegory often have no individual personality, but are embodiments of moral qualities and other abstractions. The allegory is closely related to the parable, fable, and metaphor, differing from them largely in intricacy and length. A great variety of literary forms have been used for allegories. It is a form of symbolic expression.

You apparently don't understand the concept of a parable or an allegory. That's the same problem fundamentalist seem to have.
But then again you aren't really looking for an answer are you? Just like so many other people on here you just want to anonymously insult somebody.

I actually heard of someone who tried to cut his arm off. He lost his arm because of complications due to the injury. I've never understood this scripture fully. I guess eternal life is worth alot more than an arm, foot, or eye.

In a sense, it means if something causes you to sin, you must separate yourself from it (speaking in parables).
For example, if you seem to drink a little too much, the wise thing to do would be to stop drinking. If you eat too much, then the wise thing is to watch what you eat and so forth.
If you view pornographic material, the wise thing would be to separate yourself from that stuff that causes you to sin.

all religions have their contradictions.... its called "faith", believing something that you cannot prove to be true, such as looking at your friend... you know his is there through impulses submitting to your brain, but you cannot truly prove his is there. its just an ACCEPTED idea. all religions are bound to this sort of understading. Have you seen former Presidnet Lincoln before? obviously not, but you base your faith that he was a real person on the accepted beliefs from others.

Your appearance preceeds you and you do not look like a reliable source of information. We are not so foolish as to think you are imparting the meaning of the Holy Ones words. In your case perhaps your fingers offend you.

Jesus is not speaking literally here, he is speaking figurativly. If you read the rest of the chapter in context this is easy to see. If someone did follow this literally they would be an idiot.
Please do not quote the Bible out of context!

It is obvious you really have no idea of the teaching He is trying to get across here. Go back and read more and keep it in context.
Have you ever heard of allegory..parable..symbolism? I guess not. If you don't read the whole passage you lose the whole meaning.

I don't believe he meant it literally. Jesus spoke with metaphors and parables to help people understand what he was saying. Maybe, however, you should cut off your hand for asking this stupid question.
