A chihuahua was found on a busy road, 2 cars almost hit him, & he was brought to me. I know nothing about those cute little dogs. Is there any way I can tell his age? It looks like he is cutting a bottom front tooth. Ears not up yet. He weighs 3 pounds. I will be taking him to the vet the first of the month. Any hints on how to best take care of him. He doesn't even have a name yet. Thanks for anything you can tell me about him.

The vets look at the teeth to see how much tartar is built up. They also look to see if the dog still has its baby teeth.
Vets just guess at the age, but they have more experience at it then we do.
Just 2 months ago, my husband rescued a Chihuahua from work that someone kicked out. The former owners was fired and left the state. The pup, Chico, was about 8 months old at the time, but the vet guessed his age to be about 1 and half years old.
Click into my name, and you can find out where to see a picture of Chico the rescued Chihuahua.
Now we both saved a Chihuahua. Something that small could never live in the wild. It also sounds to me that your pup is only 2 or 3 months old.

The vet can give you an approximate age when you take the dog in.

usually a vet can give you an idea about how old the dog is by the teeth and a few other indications.... its hard to tell unless you know dogs.
