More accurately, what is the Jewish belief on why God did these things?

There is no "Jewish" belief about anything -- Bible or otherwise. We consider Torah study an encounter with God and our "beliefs" change day-to-day. Judaism is a religion that has evolved for 5766 years.

We would be more than happy to explain our "practices" to you. We group together according to "practice" not "belief."

I'm not Jewish...But I was trained in church history and theology for about 6 years in a christian school.

Honestly, I find the things done in the OT by Yahweh to be a bit over the top. However, from the training I've received, the explanation was that, these were wicked nations, and needed to be smacked down.

From what I've learned, alot of the pagan religions there, were what would be called in the community Solar religions. Authoritative, domineering, BUT mostly, practicing sacrifices to their gods. Most notably, prisoners of war, and infants. In plain language, human sacrifices.

Most have heard of the Minoan Bull, the minotaur that ate humans as a sacrifice. It wasn't the minotaur, but from the remains found in Minoan homes...it was the Minoans.

Down in south am, the remains around the temples would be considered horrific if found in such wonderful places like Auschwitz...

While I don't agree with what was done, or the fact that Yahweh required the Jews to carry out his executions...that is what it was, executions.

in all honesty their are too ways to look at it.

if you believe that G-d commanded the Nation of Israel to do those things then one must conclude that G-d knows best.

if you do not believe that G-d commanded Israel to do those things then one can also say its unlikely that they ever happened in the first place.

People killed people - Guns kills people but only if people are holding them and pull the trigger.

God is not responsible for what we do down here...we are responsible.
