All dogs can love humans, of course they can. All creatures with souls have the capacity to love and be loved. We also want attention and food, and can be asking for that as well; but the love is a separate factor. Your sister is missing out on a lot of unconditional love in her life by believing in this way. Your Lucy sounds like a sweetheart, and you enjoy every loving moment you have with her. Have a good night.

Scientificly I have know clue. I have two dogs and they will come into my room just so I will pet them. They will also follow me around the house. I believe dogs do have the ability to love, but I could be wrong.

Dog's don't have exact human emotions, but you can tell your sister that for all extensive purposes, dogs love in the best way that they can. Intense loyalty and devotion, protection and attention...Dogs show what we call the emotion "love" in how they act. Just because it may not be an exact mental replica of a human emotion doesn't mean that they don't show the closest thing to love they can get.

Tell her to just look at the dog, come on, dogs love people. Yeah, they are eaters for sure but more than once I have seen or heard of dogs saving the parents (owners) life. How old is your sister?

Oh yes! You can most certainly tell when they follow you around and bark when you leave the house, and even when they sleep on your bed. Sure dogs do want attention and food, but that's not all; they want to be loved, and when loved, they will love back.

I believe they develop a bond with people just like we do to other people. A bond can be, in my opinion, love to some degree, but not always. Our dog is only 9 months old and he has definitely developed a bond with us. Do we love him? You bet! Does he love us? I know he can't wait to see my daughter in the morning, he goes crazy when he sees us after work. I think he loves us. So yes, I believe dogs have the ability to love.

Yes, dogs love.
Ever hear about that one pooch in Japan in 1925? Dog's name was Hachi-ko. He used to accompany his owner to the train station every morning so the man could go to work (he was a professor). At the end of the day, the dog would go to the train station and wait for his master so they could walk home.
Well, one day, Hachi-ko's owner never came back to the train station at the end of the day...he'd died of a stroke. The dog didn't know this. So every day, for 10 years until he died, the dog would wait at the train station for his owner.
If that isn't love, I don't know what is.

You KNOW they can love! Don't you feel it from Lucy? I'll bet you do. Don't let your sister change your mind about this, or make you question the love of your dog. Dogs are very smart and I think they feel about the same range of emotions as we do- they can be depressed, sad, lonely, angry, ashamed, happy, excited, and of course they CAN love!
