One member of her family came up to the grieving mother and told her that the reason her son died was because she had taken up "those Satanic matrial arts". Fortunately for the speaker, the mom was too stunned to deliver the proper response. (I had to be held back though.) I later overheard the same person claim that martial atrists as part of their training get possessed by demon familiars.

So I guess my questions are: Is there no limit to stupidity? What is it about religion that turns the rational mind off? Why is Xenophobia somehow an acceptable practice among the religious?

I sincerely hope some one in the family told her that she was the most ignorant, insensitive woman on the planet. I would beat her down in the church if she said something like that to me. People who are too into religion don't see the forest for the trees. They take everything too literally. Many preachers and religious leaders teach ignorance and intolerance.

i have a friend who is religious AND does martial arts! how would this person like her hehe!

that was very rude for the person to say that to the grieving mother. even if that person did feel that way, she chose the worst possible moment to express her feelings toward the mother. no one deserves to die!

i think you're generalizing religion. your question should be more like: what is it about religious RADICALS that turns the rational mind off? i'm religious, but i believe that god is calling us to be kind to one another, even to those who don't believe the same as we do - god said that love is, after all, the greatest commandment.

Regardless of what I think the end result of the martial arts is, this person was way off base. That was an ignorant statement, not a Christian statement! Ignorance is ignorance, God is wisdom, get the message! People like that give real Christians a bad wrap.

Unfortunately you will run into fools like this who are better off keeping their mouth shut because they are not speaking for the Lord!

My heart goes out to your friends family and I will pray for them.

I would have slugged that woman (evil & old both).
Nobody has a right to say that at a funeral.
Her comment is no better than the funeral protesters.

Btw, martial arts are born of faith in many cases.
Anybody who claims what this lady claimed are ignorant & have no basis of fact.

IN fact as I understood it several of the best martial arts were born in churchs/monostaries, etc...

What an idiot. This woman has no balance. Any knowledge about the spritual realm she has garnered in her reading and studying is severely washed out and destroyed by stupidity.

When people have a RELATIONSHIP, not a religion, then stupidity is eliminated in my opinion. That is key. Yeah, she surely needed a smack from someone. But look at it this way: she is gone from your life, but she's got to live with herself everyday.

Not very many religious people believe that way. My Church had a martial arts class at one time.

There is no limit to stupidity, for the religious or anyone!

This was radical religious person, please do not think that all Christians are that way!

Some people are truly ignorant of these things. Then they try to pass off their ignorance as valid information no matter how many people know they're wrong. Whoever held you back should've just stayed put.

Oh my goodness -- I would have had to have been held back, too, and I'm about as passive a Christian as you could ever find. I think this woman was affected by an unholy spirit, herself. Who else would have said such a heartless thing at a child's funeral?

Honestly, if I knew who this woman's pastor was, I'd go speak with him and ask that he deal with this woman's evil nature; she's fallen into scriptural error and needs to be corrected. I'd also speak with her, too.

Wow. I'm still nearly speechless.
