Honey, I've been in the dairy industry for 16 years and milk is good up to a month after its expiration date if it's kept very (note very) cold. Once it starts to separate you want to throw it away. A few days after the date is fine. A week after the date (if kept cold) is fine. Just don't trust it in a convenience store, only if it's in your own fridge. Good luck.

The date is supposed to be a "Sell by" date...and you're supposed to have 10 days after that. But I can smell/taste a funkiness, so I can't keep it more than a day or so after the date. More often than not, we are out of milk long before the expiration date! Whew!

Well, I and my whole family loves milk, so it never last after the date. But on the rare time it does, I will drink it, but it tasted weird. It is because my mind thinks it is bad. In reality it could last for maybe even 14 days, but the date is put to insure the best freashness, and also I think so people will have to buy more milk.

The date on the carton is the sell by date, which means it needs to leave the store by then. It should still be good for nearly a week after that. It freaks my husband out though and we waste more milk than we drink. Of course if I buy less, then we want more.... which we will waste. Use your nose, if it smells o.k., then taste it. It won't kill you, it just tastes nasty.

not really, sometimes milk can last a week or 2 after the expiry date.... just check if it smells sour or has chunks in it first, in that case it is bad... because every cow is different, there is no exact way of determining when the milk will have gone bad...

OK well this proves the point that Americans have it too good, I'm sure other people in poorer countries don't question their milk expiration dates... if they have one

It does not freak me out, but I do smell it and if it smells ok I am drinking it, I was brought up not to waste anything. Be careful though.
