Sure it is good for you and full of iron. Just make sure it is clean.

You should not be able to buy any raw spinach now and until they figure out what happened. I had some today at a restaurant but it was in a spring mix, so it must be a local source that they know is OK. Eat it when it becomes available again.

If you eat spinach, wash it thoroughly in a collander and let it dry for a little while. If you buy the bagged spinach, do not eat it past the expiration or 'sell by' date on the bag. Spinach is extremely good for you...very high in iron and other nutrients. Just use common sense when you buy it and prepare it for meals.

We routinely eat stuff in Mexico that would probably kill a dog. What we do is disinfect it. If you take this spinach that they have recalled and put a few drops of disinfectant in a couple quarts of water, then soak it thoroughly for like 20 minutes, it will be fine.

In Mexico, almost all that green stuff is covered with e-coli. So, it all has to be disinfected.

If you don't have disinfectant, then you use drops of ordinary household bleach, one or two drops per quart for drinking water, and maybe 8 drops per quart to disinfect spinach or lettuce

That is why I did not feel sorry for lazies in New Orleans who whined it was George Bush' fault they did not have drinking water. I bet if I'd been there, it wouldn't have taken long to find a jug of bleach floating around, enough to disinfect water for a batallion.

Sure. Go ahead & eat the spinach. Just cook it first, don't eat it raw like in a salad.

canned or dried spinach is fine. Fresh spinach is fine too if you boil it for 20 minutes before you eat it.

I read an article in the paper that said to wait, and that it could have e-coli even if you wash it yourself. If you want to eat it, I would recommend cooking it.
