i wouldnt say they are uncommon or common...
but in canada, you only have a cesarean if you are unable to give birth naturally (at the discretion of the doc)

Too common. I think it's around 25% of all births in US. It's one of the many reasons why our infant mortality rate is the highest among industuralized countries. I would never choose a doctor or midwife that had a cesarean rate above 10%

i read an article on this, just forgot where i read it. there is a rising rate of cesareans in the US simply because doctors are impatient. they dont want to wait hours upon hours for the woman to deliver so they send them to the operating room. they are also quicker to give episiotomies for the same reason.

c-sections are very common today because some parents chose this method, some are on medical card and the doctors will do what ever it will pay more for, and some actually have problems that need this done. they have just changed the law where doctors have to make people who have had them in the past try to have a vaginal because they said c-section is being done way too much.

1/4 in the US.

The reason is not 'impatience'. The reason is malpractice suits. If anything looks like its abnormal, the doctors are happy to do a c-section and avoid being sued.

My daughter was over 10 lb, and breach. That's a definite c-section (they tried turning before hand, unsucessfully). My wife opted for a c-section for our second child.

more common than you might think, once the head drops I wouldn't worry too much, but if you are having more than one baby it happens more often then not.
