I'll pretend that your question isn't a pretense for a political statement.
There are all sorts of good reasons to do this. Perhaps the hypothetical nation is worried about another particular nation or off-balance leader, like Kim Jung Il. Or perhaps the nation in question is indeed an empire-builder, and does so because it can; there are many, many examples of this in recorded history.
Think about how WWII might have been completely different if Chamberlain had sent in British troops to clobber the man with the moustache instead of coming home with a piece of paper. HItler had not fired a shot at Britain at that point. With 20/20 hindsight, does it not seem like it would have been a prudent and wise thing to have done?

I can tell you this much...
Flying an airplane into a government building that more or less represents our military and trying to destroy said building is not a direct attack on the country then what the **ck is?
If we used the same kind of damn logic that is used in today's world then we just should of ignored the Germans after the attack on Pearl Harbor. I mean they never fired a shot either. Right!!!!!!!!!!

That isn't a very good question.
Here is a good question. "Why would we use a Sledge Hammer to do the job of a Tac Hammer when we remove Saddam from Power?"
We demolished more than we needed to when we went in and now we have to rebuild it and lengthen our stay. We went in for a decent reason, but we have overstayed our visit.
Start a two year pull out the put a Brigade in kuwait for reactionary reasons. I just want my brothers and sisters home.

Whos invading a country???That means usually a take over.,.seems the iraq govt are doing most of their governing. But I guess its ok the terrorists can kill over 3000 innocent americans in one morning..,and the sickening part..,is the invaders as you call it have died now and in the past wars so you can run your aniti-american vomit. One day you will choke on it.God Bless our troops. It sickens me when we have morons that continue to denegrate our military.Get the hell out of the USA if you dont like it bud..,I'll buy you a plane ticket..,hopefully there would be a terrorist on it with ya.Lets see you sit down and have tea and crumpets with him while he cuts your head off.
edit;are we there..,you forgot cowards dont fight..,they run to canada just like their fearless leader Clinton.

I wouldn't and I don't think we should have either. The U.N. is the international body that decides when countries break treaties or international laws and deserve punishment. It's not perfect but it is the closest thing to a global democratic process that we have.

Because we couldn't be bothered to figure out a new way to fight a new enemy, so we just used our old ways to fight an old enemy who was so weak and unpopular that we thought it would be an easy victory.
Plus is made us feel like we were actually doing something to respond to the attacks of 9/11.
Oh, and it would give us a military foothold in the Middle East.
In other words, "Osama who?"
