she also has a headache-i gave her 2 dayguill and a cold rag and having her rest upright in my recliner chair.

How long has she had the sore throat? If she just has a cold, there isn't much you can do except let her rest. If she has a sore throat for more than a few days, she needs to go to a Dr. Dayquill has acetaminophen in it so don't give her any extra tylenol for her headache or fever. If she continues to have fever, give her some ibuprophen, and alternate the acetaminophen and ibuprophen (as long as she doesn't have allergies or kidney, or liver problems).Turn down the lights, keep the noise levels low and let her sleep a while.

your mama probably has a flu or is coming down with one .tell her to stay in beg and drink lots of fluids she should be ok in about 10 days if its a flu.

She needs to see a doctor. Keep her in bed until then, she might have pneumonia and she may need antibiotics.
