The Americans do it their way, we do it correctly.

Why should there be any need to change? That's the beauty of English - it's constantly evolving and that's why it's such a global language.
Referring to Wikipedia, "center" was actually how _British_ people spelled the word 150 years ago. It was only the Victorian taste for French culture that caused the British to start spelling it "centre". The Americans simply kept spelling it the way they always had done. If you want to argue about the heritage of the word, I'd say the Americans have it.

Don't be daft, sox is not the American spelling of socks. Both countries spell the word in the same way. The sox are a baseball team.

No, I don't think that at all. Each to his own.
Centre is a more formal or old fashioned way of spelling that word.
Center is a more casual & new fashioned way of spelling that word.
Socks is spelled the same in both countries. The word Sox is a slang word for a baseball team.

What you mean is, why don't we just turn everything back over to England and stop being a country with our own culture.
WE DO SPELL "SOCKS" as "SOCKS". You must be thinking about the baseball team, the "Red Sox", which has nothing to do with red-socks. Just an FYI.

There are more speakers of American English than any other form, and perhaps more than all other forms combined.
Given majority-rules, shouldn't everyone else conform to the US spelling?
(And "Sox" are two baseball teams, one in Boston, and one in Chicago)

Nah, why bother...colour, neighbour, centre...as long as we know what words we're using, we can still read each others writing.
What I don't see in N. America is words like spelt...e.g., how is that spelled? It's spelt without a U....

No, I don't think one is better than the other, it's just two different ways to spell a word, who cares.
