First of all, I am sorry to hear your bad news. Hopefully you can feel greatful knowing that there are worse kids out there who are from hell.
Try harder to connect with your teen. Ask him what kind of day he had. Ask him about his friends. Ask him what makes him happy and upset. Try to understand him and be friend...not parents.
On the other hand, take him to your work if possible. Show him what it takes to support a family. Show him you you have to do to buy him a new pair of jean or shoes.
Communication is the key. Your kid will have good reasons to be who he is right now. If your kid feel connected with you, he will let you inside his heart and tell you what troubles him and not. Best of luck to you.

because it in their nature, they grow out of it, think back to when u were that age, i bet u were the same, teenageres always want what they don't or can't have but when they get it they don't want it. basically they're hormones are always changing they are trying to discover their place in the world, and who they are, they are also fighting to be liked by their peers and friends, coping with bullies and school life and boys/girls their hormoes are raging, teenagers have lots going on, especially when they reeach the end of school, they have to decide what they want to do, some kids are trying to fight the pressure to do drugs without being bulied. maybe give ur kids a chance, and let them know they can talk to you freely without udgement anytime they like and u'll find they'll slowly become mature adults and will shed half their problems. i know it's hard but hang in there, it'll be worth it in the end

It's growing pains, they grow and become a pain.
In reality they are forming their own mind seeing different soluitons and rejecting some of the things their parents stand for. Unfortunately it becomes a habit and they tend to rebel against everything and voice their opinions loudly to stop the intrusion of sensible arguement they are not yet prepared for.

It's par for the course but why bother bending over backwards if it upsets you so much?little independence and responsibility will be good for them.
