Just wondering. Golf kinda confuses me. Tiger Woods gets it, so why can't I?

The point of golf is to get the ball in the hole in the fewest shots. Of course, to make it interesting a golf round has been set at 18 holes, so the idea of a round of golf is to put the ball in each whole. in a specified order, in the fewest shots.
Each whole on a golf course has a specific average (called par) which consists of the number of shots the average golfer needs to reach the green, plus two putts. For example, if a hole is par 3, it is expected that the average golfer can hit his tee shot onto the green, and make two putts to get it into the hole.

What is the point of archery, Bridge, backgammon or any game or sport. These are all forms of skill where a player attempts to function within the rules of the game and achieve the best result possible. Golf is such a great game as it adds an element of beauty (nature) dynamically changing conditions (wind, weather, growing grass etc.,) and the skill factor is exceptionally difficult. Hitting a tiny ball with a tiny club attached to a shaft more than 3 ft, long and demanding incredible accuracy, timing, strength, touch and imagination.
The point of golf is indeed to get the ball in the hole however each shot requires tactical thought in order to achieve this in the fewest possible stroked. You really need to play and experience it to truly understand it. It is a difficult sport.
The true beauty of golf is that it can never be mastered and if you are fortunate you can play well into your 80's.

Part of it is getting out and getting a little exercise, enjoying a day with friends...but for the serious golfer, it's all about beating the course. Most golf courses you have to shoot 72 or less (Executive courses are smaller than what the professionals play so the scores will be different), but every golf course is different from each other globaly (due to enviroment and natural terrain) so you know anywhere you play you are forced to adjust your game to the course...keeping that in mind you know every game is a challenge and the struggle between humans and nature continues!!!

For the most part it is just the challenge of getting around all 18 holes with the least amount of strokes and if you are really lucky to get a hole in one. To explain further; each hole has what they call "par". That is how many strokes they figure you should be able to get the ball into the hole. That is decided by who owns the course. The higher the number of strokes the harder the hole. If you get the ball into the hole in fewer stokes then that is called being under par. Then of course if it takes you more stokes than what they figure that is over par.

I think more than anything else golf is a game where you can just play at your own pace and just be with friends. Kind of like fishing, yeah it's a sport but it gives you opportunity to relax a little bit and just have a good time.

It's supposed to be relaxing, because it's a quiet game and takes a long time to play 18 holes.

well if i have seen hail the size of golf balls, wouldn't that make the golf balls the same size as the hail?

Golf is a good walk ruined....for non golfers even more so. Country walks used to be enjoyable.
