You're right. If u r texting or chatting, u can use the short cut for words. You r in a hurry to finish ur sentence, u do it. But if u r writing in formal manner, spell the words out and use correct grammar.

Your grammar sounds fine (or rather I should say "looks fine") to me.... What gets me teed off...is, for example, the following type of error:
ur or your for you are (you're). There for their, etc....
In a chat it is logical to abreviate some words, it is to save time, and an abreviated word is not grammatically incorrect.
It's the truly gramatically wrong words that I hate!
Some questions have such poor grammar that I have to read them out loud to get the meaning by phonetics! Sometimes one will show up that is pure gibberish, and no matter how you read it it makes no sense at all!
Your question is properly spelled...and interesting!
:-)

I guess I am a traditionalist, and I believe in preserving our language.
However, I see no harm in abbreviating words in chats or texts, so long as it does not extend into normal written communications.
Perhaps there can also be issues concerning accuracy and precision in what you are trying to say.

It's not bad grammar, because the grammar structure remains the same. Otherwise you wouldn'te be able to communicate anything at all.

Since you're talking about an informal conversational situation, it's appropriate to use the slang or lose vernacular. Not in other situations, though, but I'm sure you already knew that. :)
