Why do so many people dispute an arguement with insults and personal attacks that does nothing to dispute a question? And should the Yahoo Community even pay attention to people who uses verbal abuse instead of facts to dispute questions?

In my experience, personal attacks and insults are usually proffered by childish-minded people who really dont have a valid argument, instead only armed with what they believe to be clever quips designed to provoke a negative response. I find it very interesting, however, from a sociological point of view, that so many people engage in this mindless prattle when, for the first time in recorded history, a medium exists to instantly exchange ideas and debate issues with people from around the globe. And this is how they waste that opportunity. Doesn't suprise me that there is such suffering and hatred throughout the world when the responses you receive to a sincere question is one filled with spite and inconsideration. What a sad commentary on what we have become when there is so much potential for somthing better.

Because it takes less cognitive effort to just dismissively insult the speaker, or an entire group (that may or may not actually include the speaker). The insult is easier, and takes less time than actually thinking about the issue on the merits.

And the insult has an added benefit that it is very difficult to counter without sinking to the same level, or at the very least wasting time trying to point out to someone how they are being mindless. So, the person throwing the insult gets what they want.

Yes, the only solution is to ignore the people who are mindlessly hurling insults, and hope that they will eventually get bored and go away.

I also have found this to be true. Most Republicans seem to fall back on the same old stuff, calling other people stupid and liberal, they think that draws blood. It does not. Then they try "we never check things out" or "we follow what our leaders say". None of that is real debate, that is a tactic they learned in college. When I went to college all i did was drink beer and Chase girls. When I bring up the fact that we have a $9 trillion national debt Republicans almost always bring up Clinton and the dress stains. That or flag burning, or Gays and lesbians. Republicans have such a long record of failure they are desperate for any way out of a substantive conversation.

It takes little effort to be rude and is because of their lack of intelligence. I do feel I have the right to dispute you when you expect me to give facts for my beliefs. I have no facts for my beliefs as no one else does. My beliefs are my feelings and common sense. Pity those with out common sense or wisdom. If you notice, some of those who have answered you question, sound like child's play. I guess we could say ,"Forgive them for they know not what the do".

When people don't have facts to argue a point with, they resort to name calling. It's a common thing... 'Let me knock him down, to make myself feel better'
And some people just like conflict and 'making a point' regardless of whether it's a valid point. A 'better to be seen than ignored' mentality
Plus the points lol

Insults VS Facts... doesnt matter because Yahoo Community Guidelines have something called, "sole discretion". So in all reality it truly doesnt matter what is said or done, unless your words fall under yahoo protection guidelines.

People should just be sure to pick best answers that address their question in a proper way. Some people pick answers like that or voters vote for them and it gives them fuel.

Some people's "facts" are not facts at all.

They shouldn't. . .but it may be because they haven't learned better ways of communication.
