I've been here for 1 month now and i'm ashamed of our society. This is a global forum and racism exists so blatently wherever we come from. It's also ironic that most of it is directed towards muslims, yet, I haven't seen any posts which condone terrorism, condem western civilisation as being infedels or support the 9/11 bombings (but there maybe there, i've just seen a hell of a lot more racism ones).

Why do we do this?

i have been on here for about a month too and was wondering the same thing. i was quite excited about this forum initially - perhaps naively believing it was exactly what it said on the tin i.e. genuine questions seeking genuine answers. joke questions are ok too even university lectures occasionally contain humour in order to lighten the mood.

ive even answered some questions which seemed bigoted but i thoiught were genuine and just misguided. the type of answers chosen by the asker and voters as best answers to those questions have just shocked me out of that though. it seems they are not genuine but instead just want to recruit like-minded bigots by posing such questions.

still nice to see (from your question) that not everyone thinks like that. i'll reserve judgment until i see which answer is chosen as the best if you dont mind.

peace ~ out

Because in everydy life people are not allowed to say the things that they think and feel, here they can say what they feel pretty much.

Also you say:

"It's also ironic that most of it is directed towards muslims, yet, I haven't seen any posts which condone terrorism, condem western civilisation as being infedels or support the 9/11 bombings (but there maybe there, i've just seen a hell of a lot more racism ones)."

So you are saying muslims are not racist/they are less racist than others? Isn't that racist in its own?

Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any way to control small-minded individuals who can't see past a person's colour, or religious choice, etc, to the actual person. Until we can control that level of bigotry (and I'm not just talking about white people here), racism will be a part of every society.

I would propose you also to read my question: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As7l_6rT9n91mi6NeWHJUhMgBgx.?qid=20060916131000AAXiO0e

Racism is mainly replicated by elite discourse: political, religious, etc. Unfortunately, it is still most profitable business: one could hardly incite wars without general believes that other people are not able to understand, that they are in essence different. Second class people mean low paid labour force, possibilities to involve larger layers into criminal activities (no taxes) because rights of these people badly protected. Others economise on minorities funding public projects or may have a big support if indicate a scapegoat. And many other ways it still pay of.

one of my best friends as a child was black.

i wasn't racist, until i went to secondary/high school, and i was shouted at from the teachers/tutors, usually because a muslim or black had made a racist comment, then i retalliated verbally, and i got the telling off, nothing happened to them though,

racism is a multi-cutural thing, which most people like urself seem to fail to realise, it isnt just whites name-calling/attacking blacks.

as for terrorism, we have terrorists living in the uk, some f***ing government eh, and they reason no one condones it, is because if muslims condone it, it would bring even more heat on them, and whites just use it as another weapon against muslims, which stops us from condoning it.

we do this because we feel that muslims are inferior and deserving of it, after all the senseless and f***ing cowardly killing of innocent men, women and children.

there isnt much to love about them, is there.

i haven't met a decent muslim YET

Ignorance borne of of years of conditioning by religious leaders, politicians and the media of the masses.

Only fools act like that, isolated, bigoted, ill informed, untraveled fools...and it is not just from the western side of the pond either, but, wherever they are from they will spout religion at you until the cows come home.

Quite, quite unbelievable.

bro I'm a British Muslim. i have been reading some of these questions and answers here tonight and I'm ashamed and disgusted how people perceive my religion. to us our religion is beautiful and we don't like people making mock of it, just like when one doesn't like being mocked with.

i appreciate one may be an atheist or non-Muslim but it gives them no right what so ever to disrespect our religion. Islam is not about terrorism its about peace and unity. i will appreciate one to study about Islam before they make any disgusting remarks about it.

bro did you know Islam is the fastest growing religion and more people converted to Islam after the 9/11 incident because people wanted to learn more about Islam due to curiosity, so they read the Quran (holy book in Islam) and soon realised Islam is not about terrorism and they came to learn the truth about Islam, so they therefore converted to our religion.

I don't know, I haven't noticed any. But then I don't use this site very regularly. I think this kind of thing happens, especially over the internet where people think they can't be harmed. Verbal abuse can get very heated in chatrooms and forums, and the lowest visual 'insults' come out. It is very sad, I agree.

Anonymity (or the appearance of it) can bring out all kinds of things in people. I suspect that much of what is posted around here are things many people would rarely say in public.

Honey, racism is a big part of life today. It is hard not to hear it. I am not very proud of our society either. Why can't we just get along?
