I'm having sound problems. There is none. My Windows 98 Volume Control icon doesn't work anymore so I can't check to see if it's because the mute is on or that the entire sound system has shut down.

You might want to see a computer technician.
I would attempt to identify your sound card / chip, download new drivers, and install them, but it is not easy to describe how to do all those things, nor to cope with al the things that can go wrong.

You may have to reload windows 98 to get it back. There are other ways to check but unless you are very experienced with computers I would not try it, you could make it a lot worse than it is.

Make sure that the speakers are plugged in all the way.
