I suppose I should be more specific by saying the specific MPEG-4 codec that Apple uses, and the 5th Gen iPods work with.

wow. such helpful answers. like i couldn't figure that out myself. and besides, both MPEG-4 and H.264 are played by the same program(s), if you use a mac. if you're on a PC, you can still use iTunes and/or Quicktime.

H.264 is a more advanced codec than MPEG-4, and allows for better quality video with less space (memory). MPEG-4 is basically used for CD content, but H.264 is being used for everything, from online content to High Def. DVDs.
