If you buy them from the deli section, yes, keep refrigerated at all times. if you buy them down the isle, then no. i prefer my pickles to be room temp. like the ones in the convenience (corner) stores.

Not really, that's what the original purpose of pickling was!!!

Actually Germany is famous for those large and delicious pickles, normally canned (Kühne brand and many others) and they NEVER refrigerate them. They just keep the open can at room temperature. I've seen them all over Germany.

But..... since most pickles today are far from natural, you'd better put them in the fridge right after you open them!

definitely == yes! (once the jar is opened that is)

if the pickles are in the cold section of the store (like Claussen) then you have to keep them in the fridge even though they are not opened

otherwise you will get food poisoning -- I know

If they are the dill chips or sliced pickles i would recommend they be be refrigerated, whole pickles are fine at room temp, but the dill chips seem to keep fresher when chilled,

If they haven't been opened then no. But I would recommend keeping them refrigerated just so there's a smaller chance of something like mold growing on them.
