That way when you try to communicate with someone else you can use the proper terms so they know what you are saying instead of thinking you are an idiot.

Because slang is regional. If you're in a foreign country and say something like My *whatever* hurts so bad the doctors or whomever will look at you like you're crazy. So if you don't know the real term or something similar then you won't get the correct help as soon as possible.

If you're referring to ulna versus your elbow bone, I think the doctor or others will know the difference.

Which instance are you really referring to? Slang or medical jargon?

well, for starters you might want to have a carrer involving anatomical terms later in life, like medicine, biology, or even professional sport, and also when you know the anatomical terms for your bodyparts it's a lot easier to tell the doctor where it hurts. ;-)
