because people are stupid.
I own a Pit, he is dual registered, champion lines. wonderful temperment and I paid $400.00.
Most show quality dogs are around $800 to $1000.
These idiots selling them for that high are back yard bred and are just that IDIOTS.
Thanks to them that's why the rest of us have to fight the BLS's that threaten our breed.
For the guy above me I would like to say, Thanks alot. people like you who fight these dogs then have the gall to talk about how much they are worth while they spend their lives in kennels and chains because you have to keep your supply up to support your hobby because you might just lose one in the ring, are idiots.
DO you go down to the local city halls to fight the BSL's that threaten our dogs, do you email majors in cities you will never go to because it can happen in your area. I doubt it one bit.
You can take your $4000. dollar dog and shove it. I doubt that dog has one bit of reliable temperment and you are a class act I must say.
People like you make me sick. Email me anytime.

You get what you pay for, simple. IT was said that Floyd Boudreaux`s top dog was worth thirty grand and I would`nt doubt it one bit. I paid 7500.00 for my top APBT and 4000.00 for a dog that is going on 20 months. These dogs are as close to the "originals" as one can get. They would blow the mind of anyone that knows APBT`s. They are not for rookies and wannabes and the vast majority of people that think they own a "pit" need a reality check.
There are people that buy these dogs and have no clue as to what they are getting . They may have "papers" on the animal but a pedigree to them is like reading chinese . This could go on and on but the first sentence just about says it. My dogs and I are on the highest level ,so you and your pet bulls stay on the bottom rung where you belong . People like you do more harm to the dogs than the media ever could. Taking the gameness out of the APBT is like telling a Marine to go to war without a weapon. It makes no sense and defeats the whole purpose. More dogs are abandoned, abused and die from neglect than have ever died in a Professional match of which you are ignorant because you live in lala land and live like a turtle in it`s shell. Without gameness, all APBT`s might as well be exterminated because it is what sets them apart from every other dog on earth, FACT. Better read a little history on these dogs if they are to have a future. E-mail you ? LOL. I don`t deal with third raters. By the way, you don`t own an APBT, you have a Staffy Taffy which also shows you as a wannabe and ignorant to the huge difference. They are not the same dogs!!!

To buy a cheap pit bull is asking for trouble. I can say with 100% certainty that the $200 dog was breed of parents that were over aggressive, used for fighting, if you get a puppy from people charging a high price they are breeding the dogs for their good traits. NEVER BUY A CHEAP PIT BULL, they are dangerous. I own a pit he is the love of my life and I got him for free, from a Charity that gives service dogs to people who need them but cant afford them. If I had bought him he would have cost me $1000, he would been more than worth the price. If you want a pit get it from a breeder that dose not breed for fighting

Pit bulls aren't the only dogs that are expensive. Most pit bull breeders raise their prices to discourage people from buying them and fighting them. But unfortunately this still happens. Check your local shelter you would be suprised by the number of pit bulls or pit mixes that you will find in there. And they don't cost nearly as much and are just as good.

depends on if they're purebred or not b/c purebreds cost way more than a mixed breed dog. some people like the typical personality characteristics that accompany a certain breed, or need a dog that looks tough but really isn't, or needs a dog of a certain size, etc. dogs provide lots of accompaniment and joy for 10+ years, so that's why they're so expensive.

$800 for an animal that lives roughly 15 years and is a great companion and friend when you have no one else? Sounds like a good deal to me. If you don't want to pay it, just rescue a poor little dog at the pound.

pit bulls aren't an actual breed, it's a term that encompasses a few related breeds, one of which is the pit bull terrier (the other breeds escape my memory).
a dog that costs a lot is probably because it has been bred to be as pure-breed as possible. there's probably a pit bull mix at your local humane society, right now. our dog is a heeler mix, and she's swell.
