... a path to hell?

How much easier to see each of us on a path to wisdom if we were not taught that only through strict obedience to the word of god can we find salvation?

Must we act like obedient, unquestioning robots to appease your god?

That is a very strong point indeed! I remember the John Lennon song," Imagine All The People". (Imagine there's no heaven, no hell beneath us. Imagine all the people, living for today...) I never understood it at the time, and now I think that message is so crucial and provocative.
I mean, to not be driven by heaven vs. hell, we would actually love each other because we want to and how genuine that would be! WOW!! Peace to you all.

I believe we all are on a path to wisdom, just some of us dont learn from our mistakes...
salvation is found through Jesus, He is the way, not thru strict obedience, see this is how I feel...once you believe that Jesus is the son of God and He died and rose again you receive salvation. there is nothing we can do to "earn" it, its a free gift, u just gotta accept it, not earn it. we can not get to Heaven by our works. obedience to the word brings blessings from God. The bible to me is a guide to life and I can relate to some of the people like Job and his hardships, the woman at the well....
acting like obedient unquestioning robots is religion, not relationship, God wants a relationship with us. He created us with free will so we can make the choice of loving Him in return or not, either way He still loves us. I personally ask Him lots of questions, theres lots of things I dont understand the whys. But I put my trust in Him and I pray for him to help me stay on the path to wisdom....

That is not what the Bible says, that is what CHURCH says, Big difference! Listen, obedience comes into everything, you just choose what you are going to obey. You are always a slave to something, something always rules you, you just pick what. Your Job, Television, People, Sex, etc. I happend to pick God, whom I believe as a Christian is the only God, who exists as a triune being, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. But never is it about strict obedience to get to heaven. Yes obedience is important to accomplish God's will for your life, but the Bible does not say, just do right and go to heaven, just be obedient and go to heaven. NO, it does tell you to believe and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your saviour. Then you follow the Holy Spirit inside you, some would call a conscience, which yes will go by God's law, but it is not you trying to live by the law, it is the law alive in you. The Holy Spirit making it alive, helping you to abide by it, little by litte, from glory to glory, not a church or something. We are not puppets, we have a free will, doing what we choose. As a Christian, God doesn't make me do anything, He is not like that. Why would He want me to love Him because He made me, He wants a willing person, not a puppet. Even as a Christian I can follow the Holy Spirit in my daily guidance and live the best life God has for me or I can sometimes not listen or follow so well and not live the best. All I know is at the end, I would rather believe Him and be wrong than not believe him and be wrong. How do you know you are right? What is your proof?

If God expected you to be an unquestioning robot, He would not have given you freewill. He most certainly expects you to question things in life, but at the same time He hopes that you will choose obedience to Him and His word. Why to you say to "appease your god"? There is one God, the one that exists for us all, our Creator. If you are on the path to wisdom, your journey will lead you to read the word of God, and you will want to abide by it.

It's true we all are on a path to wisdom, some of us just get there quicker than others!

I think it's more loving to tell someone the truth, not pretend to be their friend and say everything will be peachy. There are consequences for the choices we make and God is the judge and jury.
My God is jealous like that!

My God is Love through and through. My God would not shut down questions or damn to hell for all eternity for disobedience. My God understands that His Word is a dynamic instrument of help...not a ball and chain to keep us imprisoned...My God teaches me to love all of humanity, even though its not easy and even though its not convenient and even though it may cost me _everything_. This kind of devotion to others is the very Love of God coming through us to everyone everywhere. God is Love.
I cannot think of it any other way.

Your logic is flawed my friend. Ideaology is what creates
division and hatred. False pride. The only thing that can
ever bring harmony to this world is the thing you keep trying to
deny. That no matter who you are. You have a spirit within.
A beautiful being of light and love, and we are all GODs/ALLAHs/
THE GREAT SPIRITs/or whatever you want to call our Creator(s)
children.

Yes, but you see, people who believe in strict obedience would wonder what to say other than: "We will go to heaven, and your gonna go to hell"

Works for me.

I need to keep the focus on myself. If I worry about where you're going I drive off the road.

Well said, I've often wondered why good people would go to hell. Yet Hitler, if he repented a second before his death wouldn't. What the hell's up with that?
