Hi. I'm thinking about starting a young mother's group and I was wondering if anyone has ideas for activities or formats that work well for something like this. Thanks.

I started a group 5 years ago called Pray-n-play. I don't know if you are of any faith, but it works for me. We get togeather once a week, at my church, and do a bible study. I got the church to arrange for child care during this time. They kids get to play and have fun. We also all bring our lunches or pot luck (we all bring food to share) and eat lunch. The kids run and play and we do activities togeather. It has worked wonderfully.

The main thing to remember is that while the kids grow, the parents become more busy. The group dinamic will change and people will change.

Good Luck :)

I attend 3 different groups. One is a free play group, we have a room that we meet in set up with toys and couches, the kids play and do crafts, we visit, help the kids, exchange ideas. Next is a parenting group, we have a separate room from the playroom and 2 women to watch the kids for an hour while we discuss different ideas on parenting and have guest speakers like the health nurse, police officers, preschool teachers, etc. Third is a "going out" group, we meet at parks, go swimming, visit museums and the zoo. We are just a group of friends that want to do things as a group so we picked one day a week to meet.

Meetings at the park are a great way for children to go and play with friends . Then mom's get the chance to engage in a real conversation. And exchange idea's or recipe's etc.

Why don't you all make necklaces out of macaroni and sell them to raise money for a trip for all members to go visit Dr.Sears?
