This is a serious problem. If its been like this for a while, you really need to take him to a vet. Dry and cracked noses mean that they are sick. It is probably not a skin problem but an illness. When dogs get sick, they get dry noses and a hot muzzle. Even though you can afford a vet, you should try. Try to see if there is an SPCA (animal care center) near you. If you qualify, they can do certain things for free.

I'd vaseline it! My friend white shepard has a dry cracked nose, the vet told her theres nothing she can do except vaseline 2-3x a day. Did she sunburn it? That could explaien the cracking. It could also be a sign of dehydration so I'd try to force some fluids, like give her some beef broth.

Thats Very Sad. D=
But how long has he had it? It maybe his nose was wet and then it became dry. I think you should call a vet and ask them if there is an over the counter non-presciptrion medicine for your dog. It maybe just his old age. check his paws? are they cracked and dry? It probably means you should give him more water, healthier food and bathe more often. Good Luck!

If you are on any state benefits, use the pdsa or blue cross; if there isn't one in your area then contact them. They often have an arrangement with a local vet to help you with the fees. Its means tested so you have to show proff you;re on benefits.
If you're not on benefits ask the vet if you can pay weekly or monthly.
Is his nose hot or normal? Are his pads dry and cracked? Is his tongue dry, has he got the usual amount of slobber when he licks you? Are his eyes bright and shiny, or a bit sunken and dull? Is his skin tight and elastic? Is he well in himself?
Make sure he always has clean fresh water in a clean bowl, and put marge on his nose; that way you know it won't hurt when he licks it off.
But he really needs a check up.

Your elderly dog needs to go to the vet for checkups. Saying you can't afford it is not an excuse. Where there's a will, there's a way. Call some local animal shelters and ask if there are any low-cost vet clinics in your area. If not, then take your poor dog to a vet that agrees to let you pay in installments.

I would try some Castor Oil on your dogs nose. Castor Oil is a humectant and will help relieve the dryness. His licking the nose wil not hurt the dog internally. If you dog is only eating dry kibble, I would suggest some wet food for the dryness. If the nose is very dry, so is the skin beneath the hair.

Sorry... It is sick. The most you can do(if you cant afford a vet) make sure it gets plunty of water and food(scince diet is the best sourse of vitamins for dogs). Usuly vets have a program called "Now Or Later", that is so you can pay 5 dollers a week, or put like...50
dollers to your next time you go there.

Hope it helps

If you cannot afford a vet, then you should not have a dog. A dog is a lifelong responsibility.
Get the dog to a vet and maybe make payments towards the vet bill.

If it was up to me I would call the vet and ask for advice. The worst they can say is that they can't help you. Its the same as calling a doctor with questions. Usually there is no charge.
