I was standing outside the other day with my four yr old and looked over to see it like two ft away so I grabbed my son up really quick but the owner was at his house and said the dog was fine... but he didnt seem that nice. I get a bad vibe from him and dont feel safe letting my son play outside unless I stay within ten ft of him.

Should I call animal control just to have them tell them to keep their dog on a leash or in their fenced yard?

When the dog was near me when I had my son he didnt wag his tail or try to be playful, he just stared at us and it was freaky.

I would call animal control, it is their job to keep you safe. Not matter how safe the owner says the dog is there is no gurentee! I have 3 kids and a cocker spainel, I never leave my dog unsupervised with not only my kids but other kids too, you never know! Also important, tell your son not to look at the dog or run away from him, this can be seen as a threat!

Please DO call animal control if an unleashed dog is in your yard or roaming free.

Please DON'T be the new neighbor who makes everyone miserable by calling the cops, animal control, neighborhood watch, etc. and then can't understand why no one likes them and they don't get invited to the block party.

Please NEVER let your child play outside in your front yard unsupervised regardless of dogs, neighbors, etc. - it is too dangerous. That is what back yards and fences are for. (Especially for 4 year olds!)

PS: Is there some reason you don't feel like you could talk to your neighbor and nicely request that they keep the dog confined to their property for the dog's safety as well as all the neighbors? It might be nice to get to know and get along with your new neighbors... you never know, you might make a friend instead alienating everyone right off.

You have every right to want the man to have full control of his dog at all times. But a word of advise your body motions and eye contact with the dog lets him know your afraid of him. That's not good. You should never look a dog straight in the eye if you don't know the dog. Ask your neighbor to contain the dog when the dog is out because of your child. If he doesn't comply then call animal control.

Animal control, you dont want your son to get hurt. another option it to get a fence installed in your yard to keep your son in and the dog out!

WAIT a while before you call .. don't rock the boat with your neighbor right now otherwise he could make a lot more problems for you ...keep your child safe and wait a while before you call Animal Control, otherwise your neighbor will know it's you and make your life hell .... if you wait it will not be obvious that you are the person who complained!

play with your son outside, and see if the dog growls, or runs over to attack. if it does spray it's eyes with pepper spray! it'll never come back!
