I have two choices: either to take sociology or student government for my 0 period. I do not have take either but I would prefer to take something to help my college experience. Which do you believe will make me more outstanding or help me get an edge going into college. I'm a 15 year old sophmore and next year I have the choice of taking of one these. This year Im currently taking student government, critical thinking, algebra 2, world history, world lit, HP chemistry, and Spanish 2. My world history and world lit focuses on Africa the first semester then asian studies the second. I would like to know anything that I should try to take or would improve my chances of getting into a good college. I could also take classes at my local city college, what would be the best plan of action?

Steer clear of sociology! It is a useful science, but it is corrupted by crackpots and charlatans who will try to poison your mind. Try to stick to more fundamental courses.

Take student government. It shows leadership.

Sociology is a soft science, a mix between anthropology and psychology. It isn't particularly impressive. It is a class that fufills a general ed requirment in college, other than that... I have NEVER heard an employer say, "Oh, but they've taken *sociology*, that settles it, hire em!"

If you can take free classes at the city college as a HS student, DO it. College credits prove you are able to handle college level classes.

Classes that are impressive = hard classes. Any kind of advanced math, or science. Statistics is good too for almost any career (very few people are good at it). The chemistry you are taking is good. College chemistry is *really* hard. This will be good prep for you.

*Just a heads up, usually people who are smart and do well in highschool are suprized by the level of self dirrection needed to get through college classes. For your first comunity college class don't take a math or hard science unless you are ready for a bunch of extra homework.

You can't get a bad grade in those classes because it stays with you so much longer than a highschool transript. But it is hard to do really well in them.

Good luck, Congrats on thinking about your future, I bet your family is very proud.
