Would like to get a biometric passport, although read in the telegraph today that the UKPS have a bunch of old style burgandy passports which they need to get rid of bacause they have too much stock. This is because people have stopped applying for new passports in the last month in anticipation of the new biometric one.

The passport agency started phasing in the issuance of biomentric passports in April or May 2006. The intention is that all passports issued after mid October 2006 will be biometric. Consequently some passports issued during this gradual phase in period will be biometric and some will be machine readable (depending on which passport office issued your passport).

I don't think that the rumor about them wanting to get rid of the old burgundy passports is true. This is because a0 many people have been applying for passports to get in before the biometric ones come in, because the price is going up b) there is no reason why they shouldn't still use the burgundy covers, what ever is in them. They are having a lot of trouble with the biometrics. The face recognition has trouble with bald people and people with beards. The eye scan has trouble with blind people and people with very dark eyes. The finger printing has trouble with people who use ther finger tips a lot, such as pianists. It will be a little while I think before the biometric passports are brought in.

i knew it that you need to send a request to them and they will open akind of waiting list wich they will consider up on the time of issue
