I'm taking Lithium for depression.... I haven't drank in two months...but I have been binging heavy now for a week. I know I'm not supposed to. My hangovers are really bad and just don''t feel right at all. Is there any serious dangers here. I've been trying to call my Shrink but he hasn't called back yet

You have asked a good question here. Regrettably you brought it to a location on the Internet where good people could unintentionally give you bad counsel, even as I have done, here on Yahoo Answers. Your question is more important than that and you should seek a more qualified assessment than you might find here.

There are some places on the Internet you can type keywords in to find web sites with a world of information that can help. Some are http://search.yahoo.com , http://google.com , and http://Ask.com just to name a few. There are other search engines on the Internet that are highly specialized in the kind of help you seek such as http://www.webmd.com/.

If you can't get your doc you should try a new doc.

Good luck in your endeavors and I hope you find the answers you seek.

Yes, there are serious dangers.

If you are on lithium it is because your brain has a delicate balance of chemistry that needs all the help it can get to work right...

Drinking messes up your system, but it sounds like it is a symptom of your mental state.

You need help immediatly before you deteriorate further. If you cannot get a hold of your Shrink today, I would go to an urgent care to talk to a doctor... Or possibly the hospital.

You may need a few days of inpatient care to get your mind straightened out. What ever is causing you to binge drink has to be interupted.

Talk to a doctor NOW.
GO!

Aside from lithium having the dangers of becoming toxic, alcohol will intensify the effects of lithium along with making the drug not work the way intended. Here is a web site I found to maybe better help you with this issue.

Please for your own safety do NOT drink while you are on Lithium, there are a lot of dangers here.

Keep trying to get in touch with your Dr.

If you keep doing this to your self and you think the hang overs are bad now, they are going to get much worse and you will either end up in hospital or much worse a place that no one wants to go to.

PLEASE DON'T DRINK ANYMORE

oooh, yeah, honey....for one, alcohol is a diuretic, and can cause the lithium to build up in your system quickly to toxic levels....you need to go to an immediate care facility and describe your lithium dosage and alcohol intake, get your blood tested to determine your blood/lithium level, and go from there. this is quite serious. don't wait for your shrink to bother calling you back, if you continue to mix your meds with alcohol, there are serious risks i don't even want to mention.....get medical help asap!!! best of luck to you!!
