This is a good question. Scientists have been probing this question for years and finally a British research team ruled the possibility to be nil. However, if an insect tracks the salava or free blood from an AIDS carrier, it could infect a clean person. But this is highly remote.

The only other animals I am aware of that can carry living HIV are chimpanzees and possibly other closely related primates.

As for mosquitoes, they can't transfer HIV between people. When mosquitoes feed, they do inject certain chemicals into you from their salivary glands. However, their salivary glands, unlike in humans, are entirely seperate from the proboscis (the hollow tube which sucks up the blood). In order for the HIV to be re-injected into a new person, it would have to be swallowed along with the blood, survive going through the digestive system, and then somehow travel through the body to the salivary glands. Certain organisms (like the protozoan which causes malaria) have adapted to survive this process, but HIV has not--it would be killed very quickly inside of the mosquito.

No, You cant get HIV from mosquitoes or insects.
Firstly because the virus has a very short life outside the human body. It is highly susceptible to dessication (drying) and dies out almost instantly. And it needs a "Human host" to complete its life cycle. It cannot reproduce inside an insect since it does not have the facilities it requires for reproducing.
Secondly, insects, like mosquito dont inject anything "into" humans. They just smear the area with their saliva to anesthetize it and to aid in lubrication. So they basically dont put anything into our blood stream.
Hence, insects cannot transfer HIV.

Researchers say that you can't, but it does seem like you would be able to get it from a mosquito. You would think that if you were standing next to someone who has HIV and the mosquito bits that person and then bites you that you could be infected. They are able to spread other diseases so I don't know why it is said that they can't spread HIV. It doesn't sound far fetched to me...I think that they don't want to cause a mass panic so they don't tell and they assume that every person who has HIV has gotten it from unprotected sex or from drug use.

If that's the case we all got HIV. You know the amount of flies and insects that attack us in the summer. Its not even possible. The whole world would be dead maybe the insects too for infecting us.

It is my understanding that no other creature carries HIV. A study was done to see if misquitos could carry the virus and the answer was no. I would suggest directing this question to your doctor. They are the formost authority about questions like this. I know it seems strange to ask a doctor about things like this, but believe me they are used to it. They will proberably know of several studies in which you could research it yourself unlike me who can only offer my educated guess.

Nope, you'll have to think up another excuse to tell your S/O how you got it.
