I have a friend who was an MP on the DMZ in Korea and in Vietnam. He retired a Garland Police Officer and is now working as a Civilian Crime Scene Investigator.
Good choice.

All the above answers are excellent. Being in law enforcement means you will never have a boring job. Day, maybe, but not much longer. How about this scenario: 6 years active, associates degree when off duty (many courses are designed for the unpredictability of military life) then to civilian full time, and same time military reserves?

It should be easy and while you're in the MP's, you should try to get a Law enforcement degree which will be a big plus for you.

Depends on how well you do in the Army. If you have a successful career and get an honorable discharge, many departments would like to have your experience on the force. If you do a half-a** job in the Army, you may find it difficult to get a job on any police force.

It would be easier going the civilian route, or be an MP and get your degree in criminal justice while you are in the service.

You would be better off getting a degree in Criminal Justice!
Most big police depts want at least an Associates degree in criminal justice!
Your service may help, but it doesn't solve your problem of education!

My father is a police officer. If you have a minimum of four years military service, they waive your college requirement. Good luck!!

your military experience would be a great help. military services gives you a five-point addition to your score on any state and/or federal civil service exams. but you will still have to pass the qualification tests for any department to which you apply.
