a lot of people like the idea of a dog and not the responsibility.

The simple things in taking care of a pet is lack of common sense, but when it comes to medical issues, some people cannot afford to take their dog to the vet and hope to find someone with the knowledge to help them.
There are some things that all the research in the world cannot answer, but someone with the knowledgeand have experianced the same issue can.
I do agree there are some dumb questions but that does not make the people dumb.
What is dumb is those people that get a dog or other pet and abuse and neglect the animal because they just do not care if it bleeds to death or starves. Least some people that get on here and ask what people call those dumb questions tend to care for their pet and asking someone else for their advice.

Laziness, maybe, or just plain ignorance (in the sense of not knowing that they need to know.)

I was a search and rescue K-9 handler and trainer, and I find that with each new dog, I learn something new. And I also know that there'll never be an end to learning more about training methods and dog behavior.

But I think the prevailing attitude is, "Feed it, water it, potty it, and pet it every once in awhile." Believe me, that's a recipe for a problem dog, if ever there was one.

I've thought the same thing about making people pass a test before they can have pets and kids. But I suspect that they'd learn just enough to pass and then do what they pleased, anyway.

I must be dumb because i got a puppy 5 months ago and he got parvo and I didn't know crap. Well, the good lord gave me help and I read lots of stuff to keep him alive and it worked. He is doing fine and that was 2 months ago. We have bonded greatly and the best friend i could ever have. If i hadn't been dumb, I would probably never got a dog. Boy i am glad to be so stupid!

I am old-fashioned enough to still read books and people can find good information on many websites these days about dog training, feeding etc.

I was an adoption counselor at a shelter for many years and we always had a lot of information and advice to give people who were adopting dogs and cats.

I certainly agree with you. Some people( not all) just go out and repulsively buy a dog because its....sooooooo cute...........soooo beautiful...sooo.....etc. The people that do sometimes buy from a back yard breeder and has no idea about anything of the breed's health concerns, temperment, etc..What would it hurt to read up on the dog breed of your choice? Also many of those impulsive buyers have to in the end sell the dog or give it or away or take it to the pound because the dog's breed don't fit in with thier life style or it was ........sooo destructive........sooo noisy....nippey...etc.

I hate it when people have the initiation to bring their dog EVERYWHERE they go and do not watch over them carefully. An example would be like someone just leaving their dog in the car without a collar on with the windows wide open.

Keep reading this list and you'll see tons of stupid questions and answers pertaining to pets. As to why these folks have pets I just don't know.

I'd be interested to see how people here would score on such a test if one was available.

Sometimes I think it would be a good idea for people to be license to have a pet! Some don't have a clue. It's sad, but it's the same with children....some should never have them!

I would not call them dumb, probably preoccupied or just selfish. These are more than likely the same kind of person that thinks they can handle more liquor than they can, or that they can drive faster than they can, or maybe that they are smarter or more attractive than they really are.

Come to think of it... we all do dumb things sometimes... food for thought
