I would prefer to keep it voluntary.

I would tend to say yes.
Army Reserves or National Guard.
Do understand there is a STRONG possibility you will be called to service in the next 10 years.
EVERY citizen is technically part of the Militia and is SWORN to DEFEND AMERICA from all enemies FOREIGN OR DOMESTIC
Any person in America who takes another side in that matter is a traitor. Traitors are generally executed.
You either take no stand (be a pacificst or peaceful demonstrator) or you FIGHT THE BAD GUYS. The Enemy, foreign or domestic.
Mr Mister
Why do you say that?
Ground forces will always be important!
Hezbollah just showed us how important. They fought a darn good land war against Israel. Even ISrael was impressed with their moxy.
Remember, since Vietnam we have been fighting with gloves on. You have to call to get permission to shoot back.
That is not a fully committed war.
War is hell, most things are fair in war.
We've been sending in boy scouts and would have been better off with truck loads of I pods and 401 JEans.
If Iraq was a REAL war, as in WWIII, anything NOT in a US Uniform would be fair game. The whole place is your enemy.
That's NOT what our adjenda is there.
That's why we're getting our butts wwhooped a bit.

Brilliant question.
Your about 20 years too late.
Armed Forces are going to be worthless real soon. Your buddies in D.C. are just now figuring this out.
.
[Edit]
Earl. Looking at the situation in a worldy fashion, your right. 15 or even 10 years ago, I would say yes. I spent a few years in Nam. I know what ground force is. This "percision" bombing is stupid. There is a place for it, but NOT to fight a total war with it. Is there any doubt why the enemy won't rebel against their own leaders? Why should they? There is no danger. We can take out 1 house on the block at 45,000 feet. That is what has ruined this country, we have never been invaded. You let us get invaded and these whimps crying NO war, would change their song real quick. If we started using "Cluster" bombs and taking out anyone in the way, these Loving Peaceful Muslims might stand up to their leader. When we can take out 30 guys and virtually effect no others, they have no threat of harm. The same with this country, You let these crybabies come home everynight and play on the Internet, and keep the lights low and always looking out the window, to see who might be looking in, would change their tune. I'm strictly 200% basing this on my religious opinion. I personally believe, in 3 years or less, the Miltia will take over this country. Whimpy D.C. is going to get us killed by their lack of backbone. It is ALL leading to ONE thing....The tribulation. tribulation is going to happen. It's not a matter of putting it off or delaying it. Where are we going to get these new troops? the 18-20 year old kids today? hahahahahahah lmao.
We would have more defense with a truckload of firecrackers that kids today. You know how many hundreds that have got to go through to get 1 to enlist?
The days of "selective" Service and serving your country is over.
Hey...BTW: Ask Canadians how they feel about they're Gun Control Law. Canada could not fight of a healthy Boy Scout march. We will be overcome from the North. it's hard to hold off the enemy with Golf Clubs and Hockey sticks. I don't see Mexico causing massive injury with Taco's and Burrito's either.
This is what is going to cause the fall of this country. This is what will cause the ONE world Goverment. One World Religion. It has to come into play somehow.
Just my opinion.

Maybe, though I doubt America's troubles will be solved with standing armies. 9/11 was caused by no more than 20 guys total.
This has come up before. In WW1 one of Theodore Roosevelts kids tried to get such a thing together for America. He called the the American Legion, not to be confused with the veterans organization that would come later.

opposite to what an outstanding variety of folk have confidence, the militia isn't almost bodies. the army has a attractiveness too, merely like another company contained in america. would you job take you in the event that they knew you had 4 felonies on your checklist and roughed up credit? in all probability no longer. There are legal experts, surgeons, nurses contained in the militia, now does that sound like the kind of job that any in a position bodied citizen qualify for? I actually desire no longer!!

I do not believe women belong in combat, period. Support positions yes, but combat roles no. Who will care for the children? They are a woman's first priority. I cannot say I care much for the idea of forced military service either. I prefer free choice.

No, because Christ himself said not to be any part of this world, and if you were a true follower of Christ you would know this. Christ Jesus does not take sides in any war as he doesn't care who wins, he knows that no matter what, man will NOT be able to fix this earth and must wait for his incoming Kingdom to fix the problems of mankind. Even Christ said that it would only get worse from here on out, why would he want his followers on one side to kill his follwers on another side?

I know in countries like Singapore, if you're a guy you must serve a few years when you hit 18 years old or something like that. I think it's good for countries, but I don't think that it would ever happen in the U.S. because people wouldn't have it.

In one word- no. I would just refuse to serve and spend time in jail if that was the case, rather than support a war that I view as baseless.

No, never. If people who seem so keen on forcing people to kill can become a reverand then the world is really going downhill. WWJD? I doubt he would force someone into a situation where they had to choose between killing someone or dying themselves.

No.For one I dont even think we should have as many soliders as we do now and frankly we have had many presidents send us to fight battles that were none of our concern. Our military should be to protect our people, not to get sent round the world to get killed in wars we are not even allowed to win.
